KP HealthConnect 2012 Release for 2013 Goes Live July 13, 2013
The new release for KP HealthConnect (KPHC 2012) goes live on July 13, 2013. Learning materials are available now on the MyHelp site. These include Videos, Key Messages, PowerPoints, and Job Aids that describe the changes, organized by role. To find the materials for nurses, click the KPHC 2012 banner, and then the link labeled KPHC 2012 Release Suite for Nurses under the heading View by Role.
Two big differences inpatient nurses will see are improvements to the eMAR, and the new Manage Orders activity. The changes to the MAR are largely visual, making it easier for you to navigate and adjust your view for less scrolling. The Manage Orders activity, located in the Arrival Navigator, replaces Order Entry and gives you one location to manage all patient orders, as well as a side bar Order Entry screen.
“The Manage Orders activity is really slick and decreases the amount of time nurses and doctors spend moving around the application,” says South Bay’s Clinical Informatics Specialist Deborah Gervais, RN, BSN.
“When I show nurses the MAR, the initial reaction is ‘Oh wow, it looks so different,’” she adds. “They get excited when we start to explore the new features, such as the Enhanced Admin Window because they don’t have to scroll as much and there is less moving around.”
KP HealthConnect Inpatient Group Lead Kathleen Zurawik, MSN-NI, RN, said that the nurses she showed it to at Woodland Hills agreed that although the look and feel is different, once nurses play in it, they’ll get used to it quickly, since the functionality is the same.
In the ED, nurses will see a new ED Nursing Navigator, a one-stop tool to navigate quickly to a desired Flowsheet, reducing mouse clicks and navigation time.
“It’s nice to know that the ‘declickification’ idea has moved into the nursing realm,” says Riverside KPHC Inpatient Informatics Nurse Specialist Karen Beach, RN, BSN. “The ED Nursing Navigator will open immediately when a nurse opens a roomed patient’s chart.”
Zurawik says, overall, nurses are more confident and excited about these changes.
“The changes won’t impede their workflows, and in fact, will help them. One example is the Doc Flowsheet changes. Nurses are constantly being interrupted, so they love features like Go to last. It takes them right back to where they left off.”
The easiest way to learn about these and other changes in the KP HealthConnect 2012 Release is to visit MyHelp and register; but anyone can get the materials they need – just access the MyHelp website, click the KPHC 2012 Release link, and select the materials for your role. |
