MCH Leadership Residency Program

The MCH Nursing Leadership Residency is an opportunity for staff nurses to participate in a high impact leadership developmental program. The program consists of a unique, blended learning experience in which participants will develop and expand leadership skills and competencies within the areas of: strategic thinking, communication, systems thinking, influence, change management, results orientation, and professional practice development.

  • Carmen N. Urbayan, R.N., M.S.N. from Los Angeles Medical Center

    Carmen is a Pediatric nurse at Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC). Her leadership potential is evidenced by her active participation and contribution on multiple unit-based and hospital-wide committees, including serving as co-chair of the Pediatric/Pediatric ICU Collaborative Team (shared governance), member of the Pediatric/Pediatric ICU Chemotherapy Committee, member of the LAMC Nursing Practice and Standards Committee, and member of the LAMC Patient Classification System Committee. She also serves as a relief charge nurse in the Pediatric Unit. In the community level, Carmen is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses, and California Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists.

    She is dedicated to promoting evidence-based practice and elevating the profession of nursing by facilitating nurse-driven improvement projects and sharing group findings through poster presentations at the local and regional level. Carmen was a recipient of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Loan Forgiveness Scholarship Program and has been nominated LAMC Nurse of the Year in 2013 and 2014. In 2015, she received her Master of Science in Nursing degree in the advanced practice role of Clinical Nurse Specialist.

  • Juli Nagashima, MSN, RNC-OB from Anaheim Medical Center

    Juli has worked for Kaiser Permanente since 2011.  She received her ADN from Mt. Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles and her BSN and MSN in Education from Western Governors University in Salt Lake City.  Juli is nationally certified in Inpatient OB and she is an AWHONN instructor for electronic fetal monitoring.  At Kaiser Anaheim Medical Center, she has sat on the Staffing and Scheduling Committee and she was the Infection Protocol RN for Labor and Delivery and a member of the award winning UBT.

    Juli has received numerous awards throughout her academic and professional career including: Phi Beta Kappa, Dean’s Great Distinction, President’s Scholar, Five Jewel Award for outstanding Community Service as well as 2013 Radiant Start Award at Kaiser Anaheim Medical Center and 2014 MCH Leadership Resident at Kaiser Regional Headquarters.

    Juli has a 6-acre ranch called Big Rock Ranch.  She lives there with Paul, her husband of 25 years, and her 13 four-legged children: 6 Horses and 7 dogs.  She loves to ride and be with her horses.  She volunteers her time with Riverside County Medical Reserve Corps and California Disaster Volunteers.  She also helps feed the homeless humans and their dogs as well as fostering dogs and horses for various rescue organizations.  She believes laughter is healing, so she makes frequent trips to the various comedy stores in the area and loves to go to Disneyland with her friends.

    Juli loves working for Kaiser Permanente.  She believes in the visions and values of the company and knows that she has found a home with Kaiser until retirement time comes calling.  She hopes that she make a contribution to KP’s success.
